Choosing a recipe app for your restaurant

Many recipe apps are made for home cooks. A professional kitchen has other needs. These seven questions help you choose.

1. Can you get your existing recipes in?

An app where you have to retype everything ends up unused. Check whether you can import Word, PDF and photos of handwritten recipes in one go.

2. Does your recipe stay exactly as it was?

Ask what the app does when it is unsure. A good app does not invent quantities or steps, but shows you what to check.

3. Does it work on a phone in the kitchen?

Large text, quick search, usable with wet hands. Try it in the middle of your own mise en place, not at a desk.

4. Can you share with rights?

The team needs to be able to read, but not everyone needs to change everything. Look for roles such as owner, editor and viewer.

5. Can you print neatly?

A whole folder at once, calmly laid out, ideally with your restaurant’s logo.

6. What happens without internet?

Cold rooms and basements rarely have good wifi. Check whether you can open your recipes offline.

7. What happens to your recipes if you cancel?

Your recipes are your knowledge. Check whether you keep them when you stop paying. In Savour everything simply stays.
